Nigerian ICT solutions provider Zinox Technologies, in partnership with corporate social responsibility platform KongaCares, is set to launch an ambitious programme aimed at equipping one million Nigerian students with computers.
The initiative, titled ‘Computerise Nigeria’, will be officially unveiled on Thursday, September 4, at the prestigious GITEX Nigeria event, the tech distributor said on Tuesday.
The programme seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem by providing students in higher institutions with access to modern computing tools, internet connectivity, and reliable power solutions. Beyond simply distributing devices, the initiative offers a complete digital ecosystem, including iPower customised inverters to mitigate persistent electricity challenges and satellite internet connectivity powered by Starlink, ensuring students can study and learn without infrastructural limitations.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Zinox Technologies emphasised the transformative potential of the initiative. “This programme goes beyond hardware; it is about creating an environment where technology and human capital development converge. Our goal is to enable Nigerian students to compete on a global stage,” the company said.
The Computerise Nigeria Flexipay scheme introduces interest-free, flexible payment plans for institutions, removing financial barriers while maintaining sustainability. Quarterly donor reports will track the impact of contributions, allowing government agencies, alumni associations, NGOs, and well-meaning Nigerians to monitor how their support is enhancing learning environments nationwide.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader digital development goals, aiming to equip graduates with the skills necessary for participation in a knowledge-driven economy. By targeting higher institutions, the programme addresses the critical need for digital literacy in preparation for the global marketplace.
Zinox and KongaCares have invited stakeholders across Nigeria, governments, politicians, civil society, alumni groups, and private sector partners to support the programme, highlighting the importance of collaboration in bridging Nigeria’s technology gap.
The programme could have a significant impact on reducing educational inequalities, particularly in regions where access to computing resources is limited. By providing students with both hardware and connectivity, the initiative is expected to foster a generation of tech-savvy graduates equipped for the digital economy.
