Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Amanda Ebeye, is steadily expanding her creative footprint despite dividing her time between Nigeria and Canada.
Speaking on navigating two countries while adjusting to motherhood, Ebeye said she remained active in the growing world of digital filmmaking, with a strong focus on YouTube as a distribution platform.
Addressing the trend, Ebeye explained that her approach is less about standing out and more about fully embracing YouTube as a space that encourages creative independence.
She noted that the platform allows filmmakers to present their work directly to audiences without having to seek approval from traditional industry gatekeepers.

According to her, YouTube has effectively solved one of the biggest challenges filmmakers face: distribution. She explained that the platform offers a global stage where quality content can find its audience organically, without the need for industry connections or corporate backing.
Ebeye also highlighted the accessibility of YouTube, stressing that creators only need compelling content and consistency. In her view, the absence of strict barriers makes it easier for genuine talent to be discovered.
Living partly in Canada has brought changes to her routine, especially after welcoming a child, but she remains closely connected to Nigeria’s film industry.
She clarified that she does not see herself as permanently based abroad, explaining that she regularly moves between both countries.
She said, “One says you have to remember Nollywood has been about quick fixes and the easiest way out. You can’t blame them; it is the society we live in.
“No long-term plans, just the quickest way to make money and reach the greatest number of people. The second is that our practitioners are only going where Nigerians are.
“Majority of Nigerians consume their content on YouTube, so Nollywood filmmakers have simply followed them there, and they are assured of payment from the platforms.”
