Youths urged to embrace innovation

Nigerian youths have been urged to embrace innovation and sustainability as critical pillars for thriving in the global entrepreneurial landscape.

This call was made during the 2024 Youth Entrepreneurial Dialogue, themed “Entrepreneurship for Everyone: Empowering Youth to Shape a Sustainable Future”, held recently in Lagos by the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-Atlantic University.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, Dr Peter Bankole, emphasised the importance of innovation as the cornerstone of entrepreneurial growth and sustainability.

He said, “Innovation is vital for the growth and advancement of entrepreneurship. Startups must see these as key ingredients for survival.”

Also, the Strategy and Business Development Lead at Providus Bank, Damilola Feyide, stated the bank’s dedication to nurturing young entrepreneurs through initiatives like market access, financial support, and mentorship programs, executed in collaboration with EDC and GEN Nigeria.

“We believe innovation and sustainability are essential to the survival of small businesses,” Feyide added.

A key feature of the event was a pitch competition, where EDVEEN Edible Cup clinched the top prize.

According to the statement, this milestone marked the first time a male entrepreneur emerged as the winner.

The victory underscored the evolving inclusivity of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nigeria.

The dialogue also served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss steps for startups to create meaningful community impacts rather than focusing solely on profit.

Discussions highlighted how innovation and sustainability could drive long-term success for small and medium-sized enterprises.

“By fostering creativity, collaboration, and impactful change, the 2024 Youth Entrepreneurial Dialogue reaffirmed its dedication to equipping young innovators with the tools and networks needed to shape a sustainable future.

“The event continues to inspire the next generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs to compete on a global scale while addressing local challenges,” the statement read.
