Winners emerge in ACCA competition

The Ambassadors College, Ogun State has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Secondary School Finance Competition organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja emerged as the first runner-up while GreenOak College, Port-Harcourt emerged as the second runner-up.

Ambassadors College received N2m from ACCA and the lead sponsor of the event, Nile University, Abuja, gave out cash prizes and scholarships to the winning team, including its coach.

Loyola Jesuit College, which was the winner last year, received N1m from ACCA and other prizes including cash from Nile University while the third-place winner got N500,000 and other cash prizes.

The organisers of the event noted that the 2024 competition was the second edition of the competition.

Last year, the inaugural edition saw Loyola Jesuit College crowned as the National Champions.

According to ACCA, 77 schools applied nationwide for the competition this year and after the stage 1 online aptitude test (a new addition this year), 15 schools with the highest scores emerged as regional finalists.

ACCA said the competition was aimed at promoting financial literacy and inspiring young minds to explore careers in finance.

It noted that it was part of its mission to create opportunities for talented individuals.

The Country Head of ACCA Nigeria, Mr Thomas Isibor, said, “The objective of the competition is to contribute to the development of the finance and accountancy profession, to provide internships for students and capacity development for partner schools.”
