Why Nigerians retire into confusion – Expert

The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Retire And Refire Solutions Limited, Mrs. Patience Ukor, has highlighted the primary reasons many Nigerians retire into confusion, including poor planning and lack of support systems.

Ukor stated the challenges of retirement planning in Nigeria recently at the pre-launch of Retire and Re-fire Solutions Limited, a Lagos-based organisation focused on empowering retirees in the state.

“Retirement should never catch anyone unprepared,” Ukor stated.

She attributed financial instability, health challenges, and a loss of purpose to inadequate pre-retirement planning.

According to her, the absence of tailored financial tools and structured support networks for retirees exacerbates their struggles.

Ukor said, “RAR Solutions aims to reverse this trend by equipping Nigerians with resources for seamless retirement transitions.”

“We want to redefine retirement as a period of fulfilment and opportunity,” Ukor emphasised.

She mentioned that the organisation plans to provide wealth-building strategies, health-focused initiatives, and financial security for its members.

The event also featured keynote speaker Edward Adebeshin, who lauded RAR’s initiative as a timely solution to overlooked retirement issues.

“This platform offers financial stability and fosters community among retirees,” Adebeshin said.

The Chairman of RAR Solutions, Obukaroro Ovadje, underscored the importance of proactive retirement planning.

“Retirement can either be peaceful or chaotic, depending on preparation. RAR is here to ensure clarity and purpose for retirees,” he remarked.

To achieve its vision, the firm aims to attract 100,000 subscribers in its first year by partnering with financial institutions and healthcare providers. For an annual fee of N10,000, members will enjoy retirement savings tools, healthcare consultations, subsidised lifestyle programmes, discounted travel, skill workshops, and community events.

Ukor urged Nigerians to start intentional retirement planning early, emphasising the transformative potential of RAR Solutions.

“Our mission is to make retirement an enriching phase of life,” she concluded.

She added that the firm is set to officially launch its full suite of services in the coming months, as it promises to redefine the retirement experience in Nigeria, offering hope and support to countless individuals entering this critical phase of life.
