The Singer Market Development Association (SMDA), in conjunction with the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has said it is building over N1 billion Fire Fighting Equipment and an office at the Market for quick intervention.
Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of the Association, Barrister Muhammad Junaidu Zakari, hinted that they are building the Fire-fighting office and equipment to serve as a proactive measure centre in case of emergency.
Barrister Muhammad also said that the association has taken it upon themselves to create gates across the Market, and did so to ensure that there is time for opening and closing in the operations of the Market.
He said, “Because of the frequent fire incidents, we have agreed with the Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Barau Jibrin, to build over N1 Billion Fire equipment and offices”.
Barrister Muhammad Junaidu Zakari explained that the association is working assiduously to ensure that the market has some remedies for the problems of fire.
“We are also making gates across the Market and opening accessible Roads that would allow easy movements of vehicles as opposed to the traditional ways of blockage we experienced”.
The Chairman notes that they have over N200 Million they have gathered from sympathisers of the fire incidents, and soon they will begin the distribution of the money to the victims”.
He said they have also shared N10 million to some small-scale businesses in the Market as donations from a company, adding that what they are doing is the first of its kind.
“No association ever in this Market that has the initiatives we are putting to salvage the predicament of our people, and this is just the beginning of our plans we have for execution”, the Chairman added.
