The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has alleged that Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) wants to scuttle its March 29 and 30 National Convention.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, at a press conference, alleged there is plan by the Turaki group to approach courts in Ibadan in a bid to secure an injunction to halt the forthcoming National Convention.
Mohammed described the situation as unfortunate, noting that the caretaker committee had extended several invitations and opportunities for reconciliation and dialogue.
He regretted “These overtures were ignored, as the said faction failed to present itself for meaningful engagement.”
The spokesperson claimed that both Federal High Court and the Appeal Court have affirmed the legitimacy and authority of the National Caretaker Committee as the body duly recognised to steer the affairs of the party at this time, adding that these judicial pronouncements are binding and remain in full force.
Mohammed stated that the faction is committed to unity, internal democracy, and the rule of law, but warned that it will not allow the collective interest of the party to be derailed by actions that are clearly at variance with these principles.
He called on the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the state Chief Judge to take judicial notice of what he called the abuse court processes to frustrate the legitimate activities of party
“We reaffirm our confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the common and trust that justice will continue to be served in accordance with the law,” he added, and assured that the National Convention will proceed as planned.
“All necessary arrangements have been concluded, and the party is fully prepared to deliver a successful, transparent, and credible convention.
“We therefore urge all members to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and to continue to work together in the overall interest of our party and our country,” Mohammed added.
