Turaki-Led Faction Alleges Contempt As Police Unseal PDP Secretariat ⁩

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki has condemned the unsealing of the party’s National Secretariat by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The faction described such move as a contemptuous action carried out despite a pending appeal.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the Turaki-led faction accused the police of aiding what it described as an unlawful occupation of the secretariat by individuals allegedly backed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“While it is not surprising that the Police is acting in a clearly partisan manner, we were hopeful that they would act differently under the command of the new Inspector General of Police.

It further maintained that the police acted on a judgment that has already been appealed.

“From the inception of this imbroglio, the officers of the police force have consistently acted in a manner that leaves no one in doubt as to their support for the Wike-backed APC apologists and have continued to double down on their partisan interventions,” it said.

According to the statement, the action of unsealing the secretariat amounts to interference with the subject matter of litigation, warning that it could render any eventual ruling of the Court of Appeal ineffective.

The crisis within the PDP stems from a prolonged leadership dispute between the Turaki-led faction and a rival group backed by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, which culminated in the sealing of the party’s headquarters in November 2025 following clashes between both camps.

Reacting to the latest development, the Turaki-led group alleged that the police had consistently acted in a partisan manner throughout the dispute.

Despite the tension, the faction urged its supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.

“Though pains may tarry in the night, joy and liberation will certainly come in the morning. Let us therefore bear this night with the hope that surely the morning is en route,” it noted.

The development follows the reopening of the PDP national headquarters in Abuja and its takeover by a rival faction aligned with Nyesom Wike after months of internal crisis within the party.
