Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has lifted his first piece of silverware with Qatari club Al Ahli, achieving an early highlight in his spell with the team.
Al Ahli emerged winners of the UAE–Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup after edging Al Jazira in a tense penalty shootout.
The contest was decided from the spot following a tightly contested draw at the end of regulation time, with Al Ahli prevailing 4–3.

Although the 32-year-old defender was not involved in the match, the victory came shortly after his transfer to Al Ahli SC from the Saudi Arabian side Al Kholood.
Troost-Ekong recently penned a deal with the Qatari outfit that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
A regular figure in Nigerian football over the years, Troost-Ekong arrives with a wealth of experience gained from spells in Europe and the Middle East. His addition is expected to bolster Al Ahli’s defensive unit and provide leadership at the back.
The final, played on Sunday night at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, marks a positive beginning for the former Watford and Fenerbahçe defender at his new club, underlining Al Ahli’s ambition to challenge strongly in regional competitions.
