President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to deepen ongoing economic reforms after emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election with 10,999,162 votes.
Speaking shortly after receiving his certificate of return at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu said his second-term agenda would focus on economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security and infrastructure development.
“Our economy has undergone significant structural reform, supported by new tax laws and fiscal policies that have boosted revenue collection for the federation,” the President stated.
Tinubu said the administration had taken difficult but necessary decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, which he noted were already yielding positive results.
“We moved away from wasteful fuel subsidies, unstable exchange rates and weak infrastructure. Today, we are witnessing a turnaround: the naira is strengthening, foreign reserves are rising, and our economic outlook is positive,” he added.
The President also highlighted interventions in the education sector through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, revealing that more than N282 billion had been disbursed to over 1.5 million students nationwide.
On electricity supply, Tinubu disclosed that 2.5 million meters had been distributed under the Presidential Metering Initiative, while efforts were ongoing to reposition the power sector into an investable and efficient industry.
He further noted that his administration had prioritised infrastructure projects, including coastal highways, airport upgrades and seaport rehabilitation to drive inclusive growth and attract investments.
Earlier, Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, announced that Tinubu defeated fellow aspirant Stanley Osifo in the party primaries conducted nationwide.
According to him, over 11 million party members participated in the exercise supervised in line with INEC guidelines and the APC constitution.
