The Chief Executive Officer of Tetracore Energy Group, Olakunle Williams, has been awarded the Vanguard Energy Icon Award 2025 for his transformative impact on Africa’s energy landscape.
Olakunle Williams’ recognition as the Vanguard Energy Icon of 2025 cements his status as a trailblazer in Africa’s energy sector, a visionary leader whose work continues to energise economies, inspire progress, and redefine the continent’s energy future.
Williams is widely celebrated for his relentless pursuit of innovation, sustainability, and strategic energy solutions across the continent.
Under his visionary leadership, Tetracore Energy has become a powerhouse in Africa’s energy industry. The company currently manages a robust natural gas portfolio of over 75 million standard cubic feet per day (MMScfd), directly supporting industrial use and powering more than 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation in Nigeria.
According to a statement, these strides are directly aligned with Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan and the broader African agenda for clean, accessible energy.
Williams’ forward-thinking approach has recently led to a landmark collaboration with Dangote Cement, supplying up to 400,000 standard cubic meters per day of Auto-Compressed Natural Gas (Auto-CNG) for logistics operations.
It noted that this move supports the Federal Government’s Presidential CNG Initiative, further emphasising his commitment to Nigeria’s energy evolution.
The Vanguard Award is one in a long line of recognitions. Williams has previously received accolades such as the Nigeria Domestic Gas Ambassador Award (2022), Innovative Gas Company of the Year (2023), and the Energy Personality Leadership Prize for African Leadership Excellence (2021).
Also, in 2025, he received the Professional Doctorate and Corporate Leadership Excellence Award from the Chartered Institute of Public Resources Management and Politics (Ghana), and BusinessDay’s Innovative Sustainable Energy Provider of the Year.
Tetracore’s contributions include long-term gas supply agreements like 40 MMScf/d to the Rongtai Industrial Park in Edo State and 60 MMScf/d to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, powering nearly 34 per cent of the Nigerian grid. These achievements underline the company’s key role in supporting Nigeria’s ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative.
Williams holds an MBA from the University of Bradford, is a Project Management Professional, a Chartered Management Accountant, and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants.
He is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the International Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and the Institute of Arbitrators(UK).
