Telcos plan virtual network operators summit

Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, energised by 43 new Mobile Virtual Network Operator licenses, is set for a pivotal gathering as Africa Hyperscalers hosts a high-level summit in Lagos on May 21, organisers said.

The event, MVNO Nigeria 2025: Unlocking Growth, Competition & Connectivity, will bring together industry executives to navigate the challenges and opportunities reshaping the market.

The gathering will draw top executives from MVNOs, mobile network operators, regulators, and tech providers, alongside global experts, to tackle the complexities of Nigeria’s fast-evolving telecom landscape.

“This is not just another industry event—it’s a working session and a strategic convening of the minds driving the next wave of connectivity in Nigeria,” the organisers said in a statement on Monday.

“Aside from licenses, MVNOs in Nigeria need trust, clarity, and alignment with host operators, regulators, funders, and partners. This forum is designed to solve, not just to speak.”

At the heart of the talks: the Nigerian Communications Commission’s MVNO licensing framework, compliance hurdles, and simmering tensions between MVNOs and their host networks. The goal is clear: forge partnerships that can slash costs, boost connectivity, and unleash innovative services nationwide.

The session will also spotlight actionable solutions to address underserved segments of the market, ranging from rural broadband, fintech inclusion, and enterprise connectivity to the untapped potential of IoT services.

Organisers revealed that attendees will learn from international MVNO case studies showcasing how focused execution, differentiation, and value-added partnerships have driven profitability and scale in other markets.

The agenda zeroes in on underserved markets, from rural broadband to fintech inclusion and enterprise connectivity, with a nod to the untapped potential of IoT services. Global MVNO success stories will offer blueprints for differentiation and profitability, spotlighting execution and strategic alliances as key drivers.

Heavyweight speakers include the President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, Tony Emoekpere; CEO of Open Access Data Centres, Dr Coker; Olusola Teniola of ipNX; and Ayo Oladejo of DigiPractice. Their insights will fuel keynotes, a sharp-edged panel, and exclusive closed-door talks aimed at aligning policy, partnerships, and market strategies.
