The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has directed the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, to reroute supply for affected customers following the trip on one of the 100MVA 132/33kV transformers at Apo Substation.
The company, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, explained that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Mbah said the transformer tripped on the differential relay indication at about 12:56 a.m. while it was on no load. Initial checks showed oil spillage around the unit.
She added that “Further inspection by TCN’s maintenance team found faults on the red and yellow phase 33kV bushings of the 100MVA power transformer.
“The red phase bushing has been restored, while work is still ongoing on the yellow phase, TCN added.
“To keep customers on the outgoing 33kV feeders connected to the affected transformer in supply, TCN has requested that AEDC take power from other TCN feeders within its franchise area until repairs are completed.
“Our engineers are working assiduously to restore the transformer and sincerely apologize for the incident that has caused AEDC and electricity customers fed from the affected feeders,” she stated.
