SWEEP Foundation unveils 2025 Lagos Waste Challenge

SWEEP Foundation has announced the commencement of the Lagos Waste Challenge 2025, the second edition of its flagship community-led waste management competition, supported by Coca-Cola Nigeria.

In a statement, it was noted that the Challenge will unite Community Development Councils across Lagos State to showcase their creativity, innovation, and commitment to environmental stewardship.

It stated, “Running from November 1 to 22, 2025, the Lagos Waste Challenge inspires communities to develop impactful packaging waste recovery and recycling efforts that raise environmental awareness and create lasting change in their neighbourhoods.

“Following the resounding success of the inaugural edition, which crowned Egbe-Idimu LCDA as champions in 2024, this year’s Challenge aims to amplify community participation, inspire scalable solutions, and accelerate Lagos’s journey towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

“To encourage creativity and reward excellence, the 2025 Challenge offers a prize pool totalling N2m: N1m – First Prize; N500,000 – Second Prize; N250,000 – Third Prize; and five Consolation Prizes of N50,000 each.”

The President of SWEEP Foundation, Obuesi Phillips, said the Lagos Waste Challenge was more than a competition, adding that it was a movement to instil collective responsibility for the environment.

He said, “By tapping into the ingenuity and determination of our communities, we can transform waste management across Lagos State. We’re looking forward to the innovative solutions our CDCs will bring forward, and we’re confident this initiative will leave a lasting impact.

“Winners will be officially announced and celebrated during the Lagos Waste Forum, scheduled for December 2 to 3, 2025, a high-profile gathering of policymakers, community leaders, environmental advocates, and private sector partners committed to advancing sustainability across Nigeria.”
