Sundry Markets deepens CSR with food donations in Rivers

Marketsquare, an indigenous grocery retail brand owned by Sundry Markets Limited, has reaffirmed its commitment to community development through a food donation initiative that supported more than 100 vulnerable individuals in Rivers State.

The initiative forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, which is designed to improve livelihoods and deliver measurable social impact in communities where it operates. According to the company, the support was aimed at easing the burden on vulnerable households and reinforcing its long-standing approach to inclusive growth.

Speaking on the initiative in a statement, the Head of Marketing at Sundry Markets Limited, Emmanuel Isangediok, said the company viewed community support as an integral part of its business philosophy.

“We believe that giving back is not just a responsibility but a privilege. Each beneficiary received food items worth N50,000, and we hope this gesture brings relief and contributes to the well-being of families during these challenging times,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the food items would significantly ease their daily challenges and improve household welfare. The company said the feedback reflected the impact of targeted interventions on community well-being.

Sundry Markets Limited noted that the Rivers State donation builds on a track record of CSR initiatives implemented over the years. These include food donations to flood victims in Internally Displaced Persons camps in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, medical outreach programmes, and blood donation drives organised to mark World Blood Donor Day.

The company said the initiatives underscore its commitment to strengthening community resilience and supporting social development alongside commercial growth.

Through its CSR activities, Sundry Markets Limited reiterated that it continues to demonstrate how business expansion and social impact can be pursued simultaneously, reinforcing the role of indigenous retailers in driving inclusive and sustainable development.
