Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said neither President Bola Tinubu nor any chieftain of the All Progressives Congress invited him to join the party.
He described reports that he rejected an invitation from Tinubu to the APC as mere speculation.
“When was I invited? Let me know, please. Did he send you to me? I’m hearing this from you for the first time,” Lamido said.
According to Tribune Online, Lamido spoke in an interview at his residence on the occasion of Sallah.
On reports linking him with the African Democratic Congress, Lamido dismissed the claims as baseless, attributing them to social media content creators.
“In this era of social media and content creation, anything is possible. People sit in their rooms and create stories. I have not seen such pictures,” he said.
He also expressed his readiness to meet with the President if such an opportunity should present itself.
The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, however, said his willingness to meet Tinubu would be driven by national interest rather than partisan considerations.
Lamido said he remained open to dialogue that could contribute to the country’s progress, adding that any meeting with the President would be for national development and unity.
“I will be more than willing. So, when are we going to see him?” he said.
He further emphasised that any prospective meeting with the President should focus on addressing Nigeria’s challenges and fostering national cohesion.
Commenting on national issues, Lamido urged Nigerians to reflect on their electoral choices, noting that leadership outcomes are a direct consequence of decisions made by the electorate.
“When we were campaigning, we urged Nigerians to vote right, with integrity and conscience. People voted, and whatever you put in is what you get out,” he added.
He also felicitated with Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, calling for sustained prayers for peace, unity and stability in the country.
“We thank Allah Almighty for sparing our lives to witness Ramadan. It was a period of repentance, prayers and supplications,” Lamido said.
He further prayed for enduring peace and prosperity in Nigeria, urging leaders to act in the best interest of the nation.
