Southampton Stun Arsenal 2-1 To Reach FA Semi-Finals

Southampton produced one of the standout shocks of the 2025/26 FA Cup on Saturday night as they defeated Arsenal 2–1 at St Mary’s Stadium to book their place in the semi-finals.

The Championship side, riding a strong run of form, showed composure and resilience to overcome a heavily rotated Arsenal team managed by Mikel Arteta.

Southampton struck first in the 35th minute through Ross Stewart, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to control and finish calmly past the goalkeeper, giving the hosts a deserved lead at half-time.

Arsenal, sluggish in the opening period, improved after the break following tactical changes. Their pressure paid off in the 68th minute when Viktor Gyökeres fired home the equaliser after a well-worked move involving Kai Havertz.

With momentum seemingly swinging in Arsenal’s favour, Southampton refused to retreat. Instead, they delivered the decisive blow late on.

In the 85th minute, a driving run from Samuel Fellows carved open the Arsenal defence before setting up Shea Charles, who finished clinically to restore the hosts’ lead.

Despite late pressure and rising tension in stoppage time, Southampton held firm to secure a memorable victory.

The result marks a significant upset, with Arsenal—among the favourites for the trophy—left to rue defensive errors and missed chances.

Their night was further complicated by an injury to defender Gabriel Magalhães, who was forced off in the second half.

For Southampton, however, the triumph continues an impressive run and keeps alive hopes of a famous Wembley appearance.

Their disciplined display and clinical finishing underlined the enduring unpredictability of the FA Cup, where lower-tier sides can still topple elite opposition.
