Seplat Energy appoints new non-executive directors

Seplat Energy Plc has appointed Saidu Mohammed and Larry Ettah as Independent Non-Executive Directors, effective 1 January 2026.

The appointments were announced by the company in a statement issued in Lagos and London on Wednesday.

According to Seplat Energy, the appointments follow the resignation of Mr Bello Rabiu and Mr Babs Omotowa from the Board in April 2025, after their appointments to the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The company said the new appointments were made in line with its Board of Directors’ succession plan.

Engr Mohammed is an energy executive with over 37 years experience in the oil and gas industry, with expertise in natural gas development, commercialisation and infrastructure.

He previously served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power Directorate, at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, where he provided strategic leadership for major gas projects and policy frameworks, including the Gas Masterplan, Gas Network Code and aspects of the Petroleum Industry Act.

During his career, he played key roles in the development of major gas infrastructure projects, including the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline and Nigeria LNG Train 7.

He also represented Nigeria at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and the West African Gas Pipeline Authority.

He has served as Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company and has chaired the boards of several strategic entities, including the West African Gas Pipeline Company, Nigeria LNG subsidiaries and NNPC Retail. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, and holds a degree in chemical engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Additionally, Ettah is a business leader with nearly four decades of corporate experience. He spent 30 years at UAC of Nigeria Plc, rising to the position of Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, a role he held from 2007 to 2018. During his tenure, he led the restructuring of the conglomerate’s portfolio through strategic partnerships and acquisitions across multiple sectors.

Following his retirement from UAC of Nigeria, he founded Barracuda Capital Partners Limited in 2018, where he serves as Executive Chairman. He also sits on several boards, including as a founding director of Coronation Merchant Bank Limited and a non-executive director of Mixta Africa Plc.

Ettah holds a degree in industrial chemistry and an MBA from the University of Benin and has completed executive education programmes at leading global institutions, including Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, INSEAD, IMD and the University of Michigan.

Commenting on the appointments, the Chairman of Seplat Energy, Udoma Udoma, said the new directors bring complementary experience to the Board.

“On behalf of Seplat Energy, I am delighted to welcome Engineer Saidu Mohammed and Larry Ettah to the Board. Their experiences combine deep industry knowledge with strong business leadership, and we look forward to their contributions as we advance the company’s strategic growth objectives,” he said.
