Women Leaders of the Labour Party (LP) in the South East have pledged to deepen unity, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and ensure that the party remains a strong, credible, and progressive political platform in the zone.

The women in a communique at the end of their online meeting on Saturday, March 28, however, called for inclusion of women in political leadership and decision-making processes, which they said is critical to achieving equity, justice, and sustainable progress within the party and the broader democratic space.

In a communique issued by the National Organising Secretary, Labour Party Nigeria, Arc. Chinelo Ofoche, and Deputy National Woman Leader (South East), Mrs Ijeoma Chukwu, reaffirmed their commitment to promoting and encouraging active participation of women in politics.

“The meeting also encouraged women across the zone to participate actively in the forthcoming party congresses, noting that these processes are crucial to strengthening the internal democratic framework of the party and ensuring robust representation of women in party leadership,” the communique added.

The passed a vote of confidence in Labour Party National Leader, Governor Alex Otti, and Senator Esther Nenadi Usman-led interim National Working Committee (NWC), for their exemplary leadership, dedication to service, and commitment to the growth and stability of the party.

The women leaders unanimously resolved to mobilise women across the South East to fully participate in the ongoing electronic registration exercise of the Labour Party.

“The woman leaders reaffirmed their collective resolve to continue promoting unity within the party while advancing policies and initiatives that strengthen the voice and influence of women in the Labour Party and Nigeria’s democratic process,” the communique promised.
