Schneider Electric said on Tuesday that it is partnering with Eko Atlantic City to provide smart and energy-efficient solutions aimed at ensuring 99 per cent electricity availability for businesses and residents in the emerging coastal megacity.
This development comes as a growing number of major companies, including MTN, First Bank, Dangote, Shell, and TVC, relocate to the 10-square-kilometre area.
The partnership, in collaboration with Eko Utilities Nigeria Limited—the city’s dedicated power provider—marks a major step in Nigeria’s urban sustainability drive, reinforcing Eko Atlantic’s position as a self-sufficient and resilient economic hub.
“As Eko Atlantic City moves into its fifth development phase, Schneider Electric is committed to delivering a resilient and efficient power infrastructure that supports critical establishments, including schools, malls, data centres, telecommunication firms, and banks,” the company said in a statement to The PUNCH.
According to the firm, an independent electricity generation facility is currently under development, with an initial power output of 11kV and the capacity to scale up to 132kV, ensuring uninterrupted energy distribution.
Schneider said the partnership aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 on building sustainable cities and communities, setting new benchmarks for smart urban living in Nigeria.
The Country President, Schneider Electric Nigeria, Ajibola Akindele, emphasised the project’s significance in Nigeria, “This partnership with Eko Atlantic City is a game-changer for Nigeria.”
“We are leveraging our expertise to provide world-class energy solutions, including customized protection relays and real-time monitoring systems. Our goal is to enhance power efficiency, ensure uninterrupted supply, and support Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable urban development, he said.
Nestled in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, Eko Atlantic City is positioned to become a thriving commercial and residential hub, designed to accommodate over 300,000 residents and attract an estimated 250,000 daily commuters.
