Rivers PENGASSAN begins strike over workers suspension

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has ordered its members working with Newcross Exploration and Production company to withdraw its services nationwide.

PENGASSAN said the industrial action directive followed the query and suspension letters issued to its members by Newcross, operators of Oil Milling Lease 24 in Rivers State, an action the body described as unjust.

This was contained in a statement on Monday by PENGASSAN’s Port Harcourt zonal office’s Asst. General Secretary, Sere Nwikabeh and made available to newsmen on Monday.

The association noted that the order withdrawing the services of its members will remain in place until the query and suspension letters are withdrawn.

The statement partly read, “Following the arbitrary query and suspension letters issued to our members by the Management of Newcross Exploration and Production company, without recourse to our Association, the Association is constrained to direct our members to withdraw their services from all locations with immediate effect

“This withdrawal of services is a proactive measure to actualize our core objective by ensuring the safety and security for our members’ job.

“This action will continue until Management withdraws the purported query and Suspension letters issued to our members and commence our Branch Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiation”.
