Remita nominated for Product of the Year award

Payment platform Remita has been nominated in the ‘Product of the Year’ category at the ThisDay 2025 Awards.

In a statement, the platform said that the recognition came on the back of its innovation and excellence in the nation’s financial sector.

Remita, developed and powered by Remita Payment Services Limited, a subsidiary of SystemSpecs Holdings, is one of the first platforms to offer seamless interbank payments in the market. With over 20 years of continuous innovation, Remita has remained a 100 per cent indigenously developed solution.

The company’s Managing Director, DeRemi Atanda, expressed his excitement about the nomination, calling it a reflection of the hard work and commitment of the entire Remita team, along with the support of its customers and partners.

“This recognition affirms our mission to enable everyone, everywhere, to do more by simplifying payments. We are honoured to be at the forefront of this digital transformation, empowering governments, businesses, and individuals to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We are excited about what the future holds as we continue to push boundaries and deliver even greater value to the economy and society at large,” he said.

Further in the statement, the platform said that the nomination reflects Remita’s unmatched impact on the local financial ecosystem.

“By addressing critical gaps in Nigeria’s payment infrastructure, including the absence of a unified, efficient interbank payment rail and the lack of a consolidated electronic payment system for businesses and governments, Remita has become a key enabler of financial inclusion and efficiency. The company’s robust infrastructure connects over 2,500 MDAs, 600 microfinance banks, and a broad network of fintechs, banks, and businesses across Nigeria, processing transactions totalling more than N80 trillion annually. Its role in the smooth operations of the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account system has led to monthly savings of over N45bn, positioning Remita as an indispensable tool in government financial operations. As the platform adopted at a national level to meet the payment needs of the federal government, it has served as the backbone of national payments for more than a decade.

“Remita’s payment innovations have set new benchmarks in the industry. The platform seamlessly connects multiple bank accounts, allowing users to view all account balances and conduct transactions from a single interface. Corporate users benefit from a digital approval system, eliminating the need for paper-based manual approvals and speeding up the payment process. Furthermore, merchants can collect payments from customers through over 10 digital channels, enhancing transaction flexibility. In the lending sector, Remita continues to enable easier access to credit, leveraging payment data for credit services. The platform automatically processes funds repayments directly from borrower accounts, thereby improving repayment rates. Additionally, it collects credit obligations before they reach debtor accounts, reducing defaults and enhancing financial security,” part of the statement read.
