Red Circle’ Earns N100m, Sets Nollywood Youth Record

Red Circle, an original thriller produced by 26-year-old Nora Awolowo, alongside director Akay Mason and co-producer Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, has made history in Nollywood.

The film earned over N100 million at the box office, making Awolowo the youngest Nigerian filmmaker to achieve such a feat.

Released on June 6, 2025, Red Circle grossed N88 million within its first three weeks and surpassed the N100 million mark shortly after. This success was no accident—it was built on a foundation of honest storytelling, intentional marketing, and the efforts of a passionate, under-30 team made up of creatives, friends, and family.

“We didn’t just want to tell a story—we wanted to tell it well. No handouts, just clarity, heart, and a crew that believed,” Awolowo told Nollywire. “I didn’t set out to break a record. I just wanted to make something honest. But I hope this shows that young people can lead—not later, now.”

The Red Circle team employed a strategic marketing plan that ranged from early teaser drops to cast-led skits. The campaign’s impact earned the film the AMD Emerging Talent Award, where it was spotlighted alongside global hits like Squid Game and Star Wars.

Now in its fourth week, Red Circle has premiered at select Odeon cinemas in the UK, including locations in Birmingham, Streatham, Greenwich, and Manchester. Plans for a North American release are already underway.

According to Nowe Isibor Segun-Ojo, general manager of the film’s distributor Nile Entertainment, the goal wasn’t to make a flawless film, but a real one. “This film had a pulse from day one—and that’s why people connected.”

The CEO of Nile, Moses Babatope, ,

added that Red Circle proves the industry is ready to support emerging voices. “This is what betting early on new talent looks like.”

Nollywire noted that Awolowo’s cinematography helped craft a story that was both kinetic and intimate. But what happened offscreen may be even more significant: with a crew of young collaborators and friends, Red Circle represents a new wave of Nollywood built not by permission, but by precision.
