PZ Cussons Wins the Germ War

PZ Cussons Nigeria has relaunched its hygiene brand, Carex, under its “win the war against germs” campaign to promote safe hygiene practices in Nigerian households.

PZ Cussons Nigeria unveiled Carex’s new Masterbrand identity and an expanded line of antibacterial products, including handwash, bar soaps, and antiseptic liquids, during the unveiling on Wednesday in Lagos.

Managing Director of PZ Cussons Nigeria, Oghale Elueni, said the relaunch was more than a brand refresh, stating, “Carex has always stood for protection and care. This is more than just a Masterbrand relaunch. It’s about a bigger mission, to win the war against germs wherever you are, at home, at work, in school, or on the go.”

Head of Marketing, PZ Cussons Nigeria, Martha Kayode, said the brand had recommitted to safeguarding families with formulations that are both effective and gentle.

Kayode said, “This relaunch is a fresh start. A chance to renew our promise to Nigerian families. Every single product is formulated to kill one million plus germs in seconds while being kind to your skin,” she said.

Business community leaders including the British Deputy High Commissioner, Jonny Baxter, lauded PZ Cussons. Baxter linked the firm’s milestone to the broader UK-Nigeria relationship, saying, “As we celebrate this milestone, let us also celebrate the spirit of partnership that makes it possible. Let us recognise the resilience of Nigerian consumers, the vision of companies like PZ Cussons, and the growing alignment between UK enterprise and Nigerian ambition.”

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, stressed the importance of hygiene, noting, “Good hygiene saves lives. Carex is reaffirming that truth today.”

First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, also praised the brand’s commitment to public health, noting that “Promoting everyday hygiene is essential to reducing the disease burden in our communities. Carex’s dedication to this cause is commendable.”

General Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Thomas Shettima, described the relaunch as a major step in the association’s partnership with the company.

“This relaunch marks a significant milestone in NANNM’s collaboration with PZ Cussons, a partnership that has been guided by a clear sense of purpose, promoting health and hygiene through products that meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy,” said Shettima.

Category Manager Adedunmola Ezichi said, “This relaunch is more than a new look. It’s a renewed promise: to protect and serve Nigerian families.”

The event featured cultural performances, product demonstrations, and musical entertainment.

PZ Cussons Nigeria reaffirmed its aim to strengthen its position in the hygiene space by offering “a complete hygiene solution for every household”, with products that eliminate germs while remaining gentle on the skin.
