PwC donates N9m to boost health, others

PwC Nigeria has donated N9m to five charities dedicated to health, education, and social inclusion, reinforcing its commitment to societal impact through its annual 5for5 Charity drive.

Now in its eighth year, the initiative aligns with PwC Africa’s broader societal purpose and supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

A statement from PwC noted that representatives from the firm visited the beneficiary organisations in Lagos and Abuja to present the donations and engage with them on their work and impact.

It noted that the selected charities were nominated and voted for by PwC staff, with funding provided through voluntary contributions from both staff and partners.

Speaking on the initiative, the Corporate Responsibility Partner at PwC Nigeria, Obioma Ubah, emphasised the firm’s commitment to supporting impactful organisations that align with its focus areas.

“For the past eight years, 5for5 has allowed us to support charities that are driving real change in health, education, and social inclusion. This year’s beneficiaries are making meaningful contributions to their communities, and we are proud to assist them in their missions,” Ubah said.

Among the 2024 recipients of the PwC 5for5 Charity Drive are Advocates for Health and Rights of Women and Youths Initiative, Cerebral Palsy Centre, Akoka Study Centre, and Patrick Stephen Purple Heart Foundation for Widows, all in Lagos, as well as Darlez Care Orphanage Home in Abuja.

Each charity received N1.8m and has committed to continuing its vital work, which includes advocating for women’s rights, providing specialised care for children with cerebral palsy, and supporting young men’s academic and moral development, among others.

During the visits, PwC representatives interacted with the beneficiaries to better understand their operations and explore potential avenues for continued collaboration.

The firm underscored its belief in sustained partnerships as a means of fostering long-term societal transformation.

It added that PwC’s 5for5 Charity donation supports its mission to build trust and create a sustainable impact, addressing social issues and empowering vulnerable communities in Nigeria.
