Corporate leaders in Nigeria are being urged to prioritise employee wellness, with experts highlighting staff well-being as a key driver of productivity, performance, and organisational resilience.
The Chief Executive Officer of The Mobile Spa and a leading corporate wellness strategist, Ms. Oghenetega Gbadagri, made this call in a note shared with The PUNCH. Addressed to C-level executives, HR leaders, and decision-makers, the note emphasised that organisations that actively invest in employee health and work-life integration achieve stronger performance outcomes and sustainable growth.
“Rest is strategy, not weakness,” Gbadagri wrote. “High-performing professionals often sacrifice self-care in pursuit of success, but sustainable achievement comes when well-being is embedded into organisational culture.”
Gbadagri, who founded Nigeria’s first on-demand mobile spa, has spent years bridging personal wellness with corporate strategy.
The CEO trains employees, advises executives, and provides thought leadership to help organisations understand that wellness is more than a perk. It is a strategic imperative that drives engagement and resilience.
Gbadagri also shared her personal experience, recalling a life-threatening health scare in 2020, when she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart. Through intentional lifestyle changes, the founder reversed the condition, an experience that reinforced her belief that employee well-being must be prioritised at every level.
“Organisations thrive when their people thrive,” she added. “C-level executives and HR leaders must understand that investing in wellness is investing in performance, engagement, and long-term success.”
Her note comes amid growing concerns over employee burnout, long working hours, and productivity challenges in Nigerian corporates. Industry experts argue that structured wellness programmes can reduce absenteeism, improve staff retention, and foster a more engaged workforce.
Gbadagri’s work spans corporate training, executive coaching, and media engagements, providing practical strategies for leaders to integrate self-care, stress management, and work-life balance into daily operations.
“Corporate wellness is not just about fitness or spa sessions,” she emphasised. “It’s about creating a culture where employees feel supported, energised, and capable of delivering their best work without sacrificing their health.”
