Prince Oyewole, Jareola, Daddy Cool Dazzle At 9th Album Launch

It was a memorable evening in Oyo State as legendary octogenarian musician, Prince Eji Oyewole, hosted fans and guests at the launch of his ninth album.

The event, anchored by Morakinyo, featured a vibrant blend of Jazz, Highlife, and Soul music. Although briefly interrupted by rain, the night was filled with rich performances. The new album, titled “Ona Ope Mi Po”—which means “Plenty Reasons to Be Grateful (To God)”features six tracks in Yoruba and Pidgin, including Agbojulogun, Aye! Aye! Aye!, I Don Travel, Eni Afe Lamo, and the title track.

A proud member of the Olubadan-Foko ruling house, Prince Oyewole took the stage with his Afro Bars Band, delivering a soulful performance that thrilled the audience. Guest artists like Jareola Oke and Dayo Adekola, popularly known as Daddy Cool, also entertained with nostalgic highlife tunes, including some of Oyewole’s classics.

At the lively and serene event, the audience joyfully sang and danced to timeless classics by legends like Orlando Julius, Victor Olaiya, and Bobby Benson. Jareola Oke, an Ibadan-based trumpeter with over 15 years in the music industry, captivated guests with his skillful performance.

Meanwhile, Daddy Cool, performing with his tenor saxophone, praised Prince Eji Oyewole, calling him a true inspiration to younger artists for living a full and impactful life.

Among the dignitaries and friends in attendance was fellow musician and multi-instrumentalist Anjola Aboderin, who commended the host for his humility and encouraged young musicians to follow his example in both lifestyle and dedication to the craft.

Speaking with Scoops, the ever-cheerful Oyewole said with a smile, “The album ‘Ona Ope Mi Po’ consists of five beautiful tracks. I give glory to God that at 84 years old, I am still strong, active, and doing what I love most—performing.”

Baba Eji spoke about his enduring career, saying, “Lately, I’ve been performing and recording both as a musician and saxophonist. My staying power comes from Almighty God. He has kept me alive, and as you can see, at 84 years old, I live life as it comes and continue doing what I love most playing the sax.”
