Pepsodent’s Oral Health Campaign: 2.7M Pupils Targeted

Pepsodent has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting children’s oral health with the launch of its 2025 Brush Day and Night campaign, targeting 2.7 million primary school pupils across Nigeria.

The initiative, part of the Pepsodent School Programme, kicked off this term in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano and will extend to Enugu, Owerri, and Port Harcourt in the next term, covering a total of 4,567 schools.

Speaking during the flag-off, Brand Manager of Pepsodent, Mary Akindola, said the campaign seeks to “embed proper oral hygiene habits in children, especially in areas where dental care is often neglected.” She stressed that the goal is to “raise a generation of healthy, confident future leaders, who will also be change agents by being good oral hygiene ambassadors.”

Akindola explained that the programme includes a 21-Day Brush Day and Night Challenge, which encourages children to brush twice daily, morning and night, for at least two minutes. She said, “School absenteeism among pupils is often linked to dental problems, which can be prevented with simple oral hygiene routines.”

Quoting global health data, she noted, “Almost half of the world’s population battles cavities. So, the school programme is our contribution to promoting good oral hygiene among Nigerian pupils. When these practices are adopted early, they not only improve oral health but also contribute to a better quality of life.”

The Consumer Engagement Centre Specialist at Unilever, Gloria Olatunbosun, said the campaign promotes consistent brushing with fluoride-based toothpaste and aims to “equip children with the knowledge and habits needed to reduce oral health issues.”

Commending the brand, Education Secretary of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Education Authority, Remi-Williams Abiola, described Pepsodent’s support for oral health education as “commendable”, urging parents and local authorities to work together in sustaining the effort.

Headteacher of Oladipo Primary School 1, Iganmu, Ezeoke Chinenye, also praised the initiative, noting that it helps educate children whose parents may lack proper oral health knowledge while motivating schools to actively promote good brushing practices.
