Paystack Marks 10th Anniversary with The Stack Group Launch

Paystack, the company solving payments problems for ambitious businesses across Africa, has marked its 10th anniversary with the launch of The Stack Group, a parent holding company that will consolidate its family of tech-focused brands.

Founding shareholders of TSG include Stripe, Shola Akinlade, Paystack’s founder and CEO, and existing Paystack employees. The agreements establishing TSG as the parent company were signed in October 2025 and are pending the requisite regulatory approvals.

“The launch of TSG signals a larger scope of ambition for us and sets the tone for the next decade of our company,” Akinlade said in an email on Tuesday.

“Having worked with thousands of companies across the continent since 2016, it is clear that there are significant opportunities to support businesses beyond payments, and TSG enables us to address the challenges African companies face. Thank you to the Stripe team for their continued belief in Africa’s potential and our ability to create transformative technology companies for the continent and beyond.”

TSG will serve as the corporate umbrella for Paystack, Paystack Microfinance Bank, Zap, and TSG Labs, a new venture studio and incubator.

While operationally independent, the companies will share expertise and values to innovate across Africa-focused technology solutions.

Since its acquisition by global payments giant Stripe in 2020, Paystack has grown its payment volume by more than twelvefold. The company is licensed and operational in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Côte d’Ivoire, with regulatory approvals for Egypt and Rwanda in progress, representing roughly 46 per cent of Africa’s GDP. This growth has helped the company achieve profitability at the group level.

Paystack MFB, launched recently in Nigeria, functions as a standalone bank, enabling the group to internalise core financial rails and provide banking and credit infrastructure to more than 300,000 merchants. These capabilities support the development of compliant, end-to-end money-movement solutions across the continent.

TSG Labs will focus on building products beyond fintech, including artificial intelligence-led solutions. The move reflects Paystack’s ambition to expand its reach and support African businesses with innovative technology solutions across sectors.

The creation of The Stack Group comes as Paystack celebrates a decade of operations, reflecting its mission to build technology solutions that power African ambition while enabling growth across multiple sectors.
