Oyo NBA Swears In First Female Chairman

…Launches Maiden Law Journal

Following the expiration of the two-year term of Mr Michael Olajide Olanipekun as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyo Branch, members have elected and sworn in Mrs Uchechi Bolarinwa, as the first female Chairman, of the branch.

As part of the handing-over activities and inauguration of the new Executive members at the High Court premises of Oyo Town, Oyo State, a 111-page maiden edition of the NBA Oyo Branch journal was recently launched with some past Chairmen in attendance. It is titled: “Oyo Bar Journal”.

Other elected officers of the new executive are T.O. Aworinde (Vice Chairman);  B.A. Oyelami (Secretary); M.B. Olafenwa (Treasurer); and Ezejideaku L. C. (Publicity Secretary).

Speaking during the launch of the journal,  Olanipekun said, “If by the publication of the journal, NBA Oyo branch stimulates interests in ensuring that judiciary remains the last hope of the common man, then the aim of publishing the maiden edition of NBA Oyo journal would have been achieved. The Nigerian Bar Association can then continue to pride itself as an association of learned people that promote the rule of law”.

It would be recalled that the Branch held a one-day seminar on June 20, 2024, with the theme: “Judiciary as the Last Hope of the Common Man: a Myth or Reality” under the chairmanship of Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN, CFR).

“The papers harvested during the seminar, published as the maiden edition of the Oyo Bar Journal, will be widely circulated to all Branches of the NBA in Nigeria, as well as, to the facilities of Law in the Nigerian Universities”, Olanipekun said.

In her maiden address, the new Chairman, Mrs Bolarinwa, promised to build on the successes recorded by the past administrations of the Branch in order to have a more virile and progressive branch.

Four of the past Chairmen of the branch who were in attendance at the launch and inauguration of the new executive were: Alhaji Adebayo Folorunso, Mr . O.L. Omoloye, Chief R.A. Olawuwo and Chief A.M. Adeoye. The Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, Prof Gaius Okwezuzu of the Faculty of Law, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, also graced the occasion.
