Over 500 Residents Benefit From Outreach In Osun Community

More than 500 residents of the Inisa community in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State, have benefited from the Lions Clubs International Foundation’s free medical outreach.

The medical outreach, which was carried out at the community town hall, included comprehensive eye screenings, the dispensing of medications, and the provision of corrective glasses to several beneficiaries on the spot.

Beneficiaries who include children, youths and the elderly expressed their satisfaction and appreciation to Lions Clubs International for the gesture.

During the outreach, cases which required advanced care, including surgeries, were referred to the Lions Eye Centre at the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.

The Project Chairperson, Kola Oyekanmi, who spoke during the programme, reaffirmed the commitment of Lions to improving eye health at the grassroots.

“Lions remains committed to SightFirst. We will continue to alleviate the challenges faced by people, especially at the grassroots level.

“The Inisa outreach is part of the broader Lions Comprehensive Eye Care Development Project, a SightFirst initiative designed to expand access to quality eye care services across Osun State through both facility-based treatment and community outreach,” he said.

The state government, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Abayomi Oni, commended Lions Clubs International Foundation for its sustained intervention.

“The impact of this project is tremendous. We appreciate LCIF for finding Osun State worthy of this kind of intervention,” he said.

Outreach Officer, Funke Odesanmi, attributed the impressive turnout to effective community mobilisation.

“The turnout is very encouraging. It shows that people are aware and willing to take advantage of opportunities like this. The support and publicity from community stakeholders played a major role,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Elemo of Inisa, Chief Jimoh Oyelayo, described the outreach as a timely intervention for the people.

“This is a relief for the less privileged in this community. With the help of Lions, many people who have been suffering from poor eye health are here today to receive care. We sincerely thank LCIF for this intervention,” he said.

Also speaking, Chief Ajibade Adebayo, Baale of Oke Omo in Inisa, said, “We have known the strides of Lions for a while, and I am glad they visited my community today to help my people. I am indeed grateful.”
