…infrastructural drive aimed to assist agricultural produce to urban communities—LG boss
Ila-Orangun, Ejigbo-Orangun communities and farmers have commended the road intervention initiative of the Council Chairman, Hon. Adeyemi Atanda, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the grading of a 3.2-kilometre rural road.
The community described the intervention as timely which will boost agricultural activities and ease of transportation in the area.
The Traditional Head of Ejigbo-Orangun, Chief Oladele Jimoh, said, “This road was terrible and discouraged merchants who used to buy farm produce from our community. We have tried our best to ensure that it is motorable but they all failed.”
He disclosed that “this road linked Ekiti and Kwara State boundaries, which is even more suitable for travellers going to Abuja. The road connects us to the urban markets.
“We appreciate this intervention by the council chairman and his excos. Indeed we are feeling the good result of local government autonomy.”
The chairman of Ila LG, Hon. Adeyemi Atanda, reiterated the council’s executives’ commitment to grassroots development, stressing that road infrastructure remains a key priority to enhance economic growth and improve the living standards of residents.
He assured that more rural roads would be rehabilitated to ensure better connectivity among communities within the Ila Local Government Area.
Subsequently, he lauded President Bola Tinubu for granting financial autonomy to LGAs, noting the move will foster development at the grassroots level.
The head of farmers, Oga Paul, stated that the initiative will yield a positive impact on local trade, adding that the road will ease the transportation of farm produce to the urban communities.
Also, a fruit trader, Funmilayo Ilesanmi described the project as highly significant to her business and others in the community, adding that it will improve access to neighbouring communities and markets, which have improved considerably.
