OSGOF conducts 2025 promotion exams for workers

The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation has successfully conducted the 2025 Promotion Examination for eligible junior officers on Salary Grade Level 05 and below.

Head of Information and Public Relations Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation, Henry David, said this in a recent signed statement.

He said, “OSGOF has conducted the 2025 Promotion Examination for eligible junior officers on salary Grade Level 05 and below. Grade Level 05 civil service exams are a crucial step for advancement within the Nigerian civil service.”

These examinations, organised in collaboration with relevant bodies such as the Federal Civil Service Commission, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Administrative Staff College of Nigeria and the Public Service Institute of Nigeria, are designed to evaluate the competencies and readiness of civil servants for higher responsibilities.

Speaking on the exercise, the Surveyor- General of the Federation, Abudulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, emphasised the importance of the examination.

He explained, “People will gain from the conduct of the examination at a higher level, and the civil service examination is conducted within two, three, or four years, respectively, depending on the grade level.

I thank the Head of Service of the Federation, Civil Service Commissions, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the rest for creating enabling environment for making it a reality.”

Also commenting on the process, Acting Director of the Human Resources Department, Oseni Abiodun, highlighted the inclusive and rigorous nature of the exams.

“The examination was all-encompassing; we had technical officers known as growing-up surveyors, drivers and other civil servants, and they were asked different questions. The general questions were compulsory for all candidates who were drawn from the civil service rule,” he explained.

He further noted the collaborative efforts that ensured the success of the exercise: “Committees were formed to set questions, while personnel from the parent ministry of OSGOF, i.e., Housing and Urban Development, the Head of Service of the Federation and the Federal Civil Service Commission were involved in the successful conduct of the examination. I thank the Surveyor-General of the Federation for his support to make it a reality.”

In a closing remark, Abiodun offered crucial advice for future candidates: “Civil servants need to study very hard; we should not wait for exams to come before we understand the rudiments of public service rules. We don’t need to wait for exams before we understand what the scheme of service is; there are books that guide us. So, I advise you to get acquainted with all these documents.”

One of the candidates of the General Service and Maintenance Unit of OSGOF, Chidawa Awwal, shared his experience, saying, “The questions from the examiners are not beyond our expectations, and hopefully I expect that some of us should come out in flying colours. I thank the Surveyor-General of the Federation for giving us the enabling environment to do our job and for facilitating our promotion examination as at the time due.”
