Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has restated that only aspirants with remarkable achievements in their current or previous positions will be supported to fly the party’s flag during the 2027 general elections.
This is coming against the backdrop of the. forthcoming primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwifuru made this assertion on Tuesday when he joined the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North district, Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi, to commission some of his completed projects and inspect ongoing ones in the zone.
Represented by the State Chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, Governor Nwifuru said those with no visible achievements in their constituencies should not bother seeking re-election as the party will not repeat its 2023 mistakes in 2027.
“The time for stock-taking has come, and only those with results and visible achievements will be considered again to fly our party’s tickets for the next general elections.
“Those who have nothing to show for their years of representation will have themselves to blame as the party will not like to repeat its mistakes in 2027” he declared.
He commended Senator Nwebonyi for attracting what he described as life-touching projects for his constituents, especially the completed 3-bedroom bungalow to be built for the APC women’s leader of Izzi Local Government Area, Mrs Felicia Ogbonna.
The Governor noted that such gestures encouraged women’s participation in politics and called on other national assembly members to emulate Senator Nwebonyi.
Speaking during the event, Senator Nwebonyi said he was motivated by the need to complement the developmental efforts of Governor Francis Nwifuru in his senatorial district.
He promised to set a standard in representative governance that will be difficult, if not impossible to beat, if he gets re-elected in 2027.
“Your Excellency, I was motivated to embark on this project outside my core legislative duties of lawmaking and oversight functions, to complement your wonderful efforts in our senatorial district”
“This classroom block, just like many others we are doing in many community schools within my constituency, is intended to help us to reverse the increasing rate of out-of-school children in Ebonyi North senatorial district.
Nwebonyi attributed a poor learning environment as one of the major factors causing children to drop out of school.
At the various project sites located in Abakaliki, Izzi and Ebonyi local government areas, stakeholders- comprising traditional rulers and community leaders- expressed joy and excitement for the dividends of democracy they were enjoying under the government of Governor Francis Nwifuru and Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi.
They promised to vote massively for their re-election in 2027. Some of the projects commissioned include roads, classroom blocks, and street light among others.
