The Olujigba-elect of Ijigba, Prince Omotayo Ajisegiri, will on Saturday begin traditional rites to the throne following his selection as the new Olujigba of Ijigba in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Traditional kingmakers in Ijigba elected Ajisegiri as Olujigba of Ijigba, defeating Prince Abiodun Oladimeji to replace the late monarch of the town, Oba Luyi Rotimi, who joined his ancestors last year after ten years on the throne.
All the traditional kingmakers of the town participated in the election of the monarch conducted by the officials of Akure South Local Government Area and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs at the front of the Elemo Palace in the community.
The traditional rites, according to Chief Sunday Ilesanmi Elemo, are part of the activities aimed at strengthening the kingdom’s traditions and promoting unity among the people.
The 16-day rites, Ilesanmi said, included cultural performances, traditional rituals, and seclusion.
According to him, the new traditional ruler would be led from the forest to the “Ina Alarapo” venue by traditional hunters, signifying his preparation for leadership.
He will observe nine days of “Ina Alarapo”, a period of spiritual preparation, followed by seven days of seclusion for further customary rites.
The Olujigba-Elect warned against impostors collecting dues, stating he has not authorised such activities.
He urged community leaders to arrest anyone parading as a “palace boy” or seen threatening the peace of Ijigba Kingdom under any guise. The monarch said it should be on record that he does not harbour thugs and palace boys.
Consequently, the Olujigba-elect urged the people of Ijigba to be law-abiding and to embrace unity and peace during this period. The event will attract dignitaries and community leaders.
