Onafowokan gets NSE honorary fellowship award

The Managing Director of Coleman Wires and Cables Industries Limited, George Onafowokan, has been honoured with the Honorary Fellowship Award by the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday, Onafowokan expressed his pride in receiving the honour, emphasizing his dedication to the electrical and mechanical engineering fields. “This recognition is a reflection of years of commitment to enriching the engineering landscape, driven by my passion for the industry,” he stated.

He noted that with a career spanning 24 years at Coleman, he has built hands-on expertise in electrical, electronics, and automation engineering adding that the fundamental principles of engineering have benefited not only himself but the entire company and the country as well.

Onafowokan added the rarity of such honours, pointing out that, in NSE’s 34-year history, fewer than 20 non-engineers have been granted the honorary fellowship. “This is a rare honour. It is truly a great recognition for me and for Coleman,” he remarked.

He stated that he has rejected several awards, believing recognition should be earned through merit rather than self-promotion. “I have turned down many awards in my life. Recognition should come from your peers and respected institutions, not be self-bestowed,” he stated.

He noted that he remains committed to advancing engineering standards and promoting technological innovation within the industry.

PUNCH reports that Coleman Wires and Cables Industries Ltd’s managing director, George Onafowokan, has called on the Federal Government to bridge the gap between its manufacturing development policies and expected results.
