The Omi Eko Project has appointed Dr Segun Alabi as its Head of Communications and Media to drive public engagement for the €410m water transport initiative in Lagos.
In a statement announcing the appointment, Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Lagos State Governor and Project Coordinator Oluwadamilola Emmanuel expressed confidence in Alabi’s ability to strengthen the project’s communications framework.
Emmanuel said Alabi brings “extensive experience across communications, media relations, and public affairs” and will lead the development and execution of communication strategies, manage media engagement, and promote the project’s sustainability objectives.
He described Alabi as “a highly accomplished corporate affairs professional with diverse experience spanning pay TV, financial services, real estate, business membership organisations, and the manufacturing sector.”
Before his appointment, Alabi served as Assistant Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, where he led corporate communications, public affairs, and event management.
His expertise spans reputation management, government relations, corporate social responsibility, stakeholder engagement, public policy advocacy and social media strategy.
Reacting to his appointment, Alabi said, “I am excited to join the Omi Eko Project team. This opportunity is truly a dream come true. While the task ahead is enormous, it is certainly achievable.”
Alabi holds a PhD in English from the University of Lagos, with a specialisation in language use and communication.
The Omi Eko Project is a €410m sustainable water transport initiative designed to reduce road congestion in Lagos by unlocking underutilised waterways. The project, supported by the European Union and private sector partners, aims to promote efficient and environmentally responsible urban mobility.
