The Ogun State chapter of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration has sought closer collaboration with key stakeholders in the state’s transport sector to drive its membership campaign and professional development initiatives.

This was the focus of a courtesy visit by the state chapter of CIOTA to the Commander-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, ‘Seni Ogunyemi, in Abeokuta, recently.

The institute chairman, Adekunle Ajibade, engaged the TRACE boss, who also doubled as the Zonal Coordinator of South-West for CIOTA, on how to strengthen the institute’s presence and improve the state’s transport system.

Ajibade emphasized the importance of uniting professionals in the transport and logistics sectors, including those in academia and both the public and private sectors.

Speaking at the sidelines of the event, the chairman said, “We discussed extensively with the TRACE boss on how to bring together all transport and logistics professionals across the state. This includes reaching out to institutions offering transport-related courses and engaging those working in both the government and private organisations.”

He also called on the TRACE boss to facilitate CIOTA’s engagement with key government stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor, the Chairman of the State House of Assembly Transport Committee, and the Chairman of the TRACE Board.

Ajibade revealed that CIOTA is working toward creating a centralised database of transport professionals in the state and is planning a major membership drive. Part of the proposal is to ensure that civil servants in the transport sector are CIOTA-certified before attaining Grade Level 12.

He noted that the chapter is also considering offering honorary awards as part of efforts to recognise excellence and boost visibility, while acknowledging challenges such as a lack of funding and inadequate data.

In his response, Ogunyemi expressed his support for the institute’s initiatives and promised to assist in promoting its objectives within the state.

“CIOTA’s mission aligns with our goals at TRACE, and I’m committed to supporting any effort that will move the transport sector forward,” Ogunyemi stated.
