Popular Nigerian businessman and socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, commonly referred to as Obi Cubana, has appealed for an increased flight frequency to Osubi Airport, Warri, Delta State, in a bid to better serve the growing number of air travellers on the route.
Cubana made this appeal on Monday while on board United Nigeria Airlines’ inaugural resumed flight from Osubi Airport to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The flight marked the airline’s official return to scheduled operations on the Abuja–Warri route, following a period of suspension.
In a statement issued by the spokesman for United Nigeria Airlines, Chibuike Uloka, the first flight, designated UN0548, departed from Abuja to Osubi Airport, receiving a warm welcome with a traditional water salute and red-carpet reception on arrival.
Speaking shortly before take-off from Warri, Cubana commended the airline for restoring services to the airport and emphasised the need for an increased flight schedule to meet rising demand.
He said, “I was on my way from Oghara and had originally planned to travel through Benin-City or Asaba. However, upon seeing the advert that United Nigeria Airlines had resumed operations into Osubi, I immediately adjusted my plans accordingly.
“As a United Nigeria Airlines customer, I am proud of this moment. I strongly encourage the airline to increase its frequency to better serve the growing number of travellers.”
The call for more frequent flights was echoed by other passengers, many of whom expressed relief at the resumption of scheduled services and urged the airline to maintain consistency to ease travel difficulties in the region.
Commenting on the development, Osubi Airport Manager Winston Egwuatu described the resumption as a positive milestone for Warri and its environs, noting that the return of United Nigeria Airlines would boost local commerce and social engagement.
Egwuatu stated, “We are delighted to welcome United Nigeria Airlines back to Osubi Airport. Their return is more than just the resumption of flights; it is the reopening of Warri to greater business opportunities, commerce, and social activities.
“We encourage United Nigeria Airlines to remain consistent on this route to sustain and grow these benefits.”
Following the Abuja–Warri leg, the airline also successfully operated return flights on the Lagos–Warri–Lagos and Abuja–Warri–Abuja routes, reinforcing its commitment to seamless and safe connectivity for travellers in the South-South region.
