OAW Sets Growth Agenda for Mechanised Farming in Nigeria

The Board of Directors of Origin Automobile Works has outlined a strategic agenda aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s agro-mechanisation and food systems sector following the conclusion of its 2026 Board Retreat held at the Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate Resort, Lagos.

The three-day retreat with the theme “Building Institutional Strength to Accelerate Growth” focused on reinforcing governance structures, assessing organisational impact, and defining priorities to support sustainable growth within Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

According to the company, the retreat provided board members with an opportunity to step beyond routine governance matters and engage in in-depth discussions around long-term sustainability, risk management, and operational efficiency. Working closely with the executive leadership, the board reviewed OAW’s performance under its 2020–2025 five-year strategic plan and laid the groundwork for a new strategic framework covering 2026 to 2030.

The board said the new direction reflects the need for a more dynamic and responsive approach to consolidating OAW’s role in advancing agro-mechanisation, agricultural productivity, and food systems development in Nigeria, while also promoting sustainability and innovation.

Discussions at the retreat also centred on refining the organisation’s mission and values, with a view to maximising the impact already recorded across the agricultural and food systems value chain and ensuring long-term institutional resilience.

Speaking on the outcome of the retreat, Executive Chairman of Origin Tech Group, Prince Samuel Joseph Samuel, described the session as a turning point for the organisation. He said the board had aligned its roles more closely with the current needs of the business, while reaffirming its commitment to improving productivity in the agro-mechanisation and food systems space.

He added that the board also focused on preparations for the launch of new technologies, noting that the retreat ended with a clear and actionable roadmap designed to support both OAW’s growth and that of its customers.

Key outcomes of the retreat included the approval of a new strategic plan aimed at accelerating growth in Nigeria’s agriculture and food systems sector, stronger collaboration between the board and executive management, and plans to launch a series of capital investment and funding initiatives to support expansion.

Also commenting, Executive Director, Corporate Services, Mr Olusesan Ayeni, said the level of engagement and commitment shown by board members during the retreat positioned the organisation well to address emerging challenges and opportunities within the sector.

He noted that the renewed strategic direction would enable OAW to strengthen its institutional capacity and deepen its contributions to Nigeria’s mechanisation drive at a time when efficiency and sustainability in agriculture are increasingly critical.

The company said the outcomes of the retreat would guide its operations and investments over the coming years as it seeks to play a stronger role in supporting agricultural transformation and food security in Nigeria.
