NPC trains FCT staff for post-retirement life

The National Productivity Centre has launched a three-day in-plant training programme to equip staff of the FCT Area Council Service Commission with essential knowledge and strategies for a productive post-retirement life.

The training, themed ‘Planning for Life After Retirement’, was held recently in Abuja and focused on preparing employees for a seamless transition from active service to retirement by fostering financial independence, personal development, and mental readiness.

The initiative is designed to equip participants with practical retirement planning strategies, providing them with the necessary tools to explore personal interests and engage in lifelong learning.

It aimed to cultivate a positive mindset that sees retirement not as an endpoint but as a fresh start filled with new opportunities for growth and fulfilment.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General, Dr Baffa Babba Dan’Agundi, the Director of Productivity Capacity Building, Dr Titilola Oshati, urged participants to embrace the training with seriousness.

She emphasised that the programme presents a unique opportunity to secure a stable and fulfilling post-retirement future.

Dan’Agundi, who made a brief appearance during the session, reiterated the importance of early planning for retirement.

He provided insights into sustainable income generation, entrepreneurship, and personal development after leaving active service.

“Retirement is not the end of productivity; rather, it is an opportunity to reinvent oneself. By preparing ahead, retirees can enjoy financial stability and personal fulfilment,” he said.

He further commended the FCT Area Council Service Commission for its commitment to employee welfare and continuous development.

He expressed optimism about future collaborations between the NPC and the commission to enhance the productivity and well-being of public servants.

Participants lauded the training, describing it as timely and essential. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain insights that would help them plan effectively for life beyond active service.

“The NPC’s retirement planning initiative aligns with its broader mandate to promote productivity and national development by empowering workers with skills for lifelong success,” it stated.
