NILDS Director, Akinsanmi, Honoured With Prestigious Leadership Award

The Director of Training and International Cooperation at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Joke Akinsanmi, has been recognized with a Leadership Award by the Advanced Management Academy for her outstanding contributions to leadership and professional development.

The recognition was conferred on her on Friday during the International Women’s Day Conference, held under the theme “Taking Action for Justice and the Rights of Women and Girls.”

In her remarks, Akinsanmi expressed gratitude to the organisers for the recognition, noting that she accepts the honour with humility and a deep sense of responsibility.

“This award is not mine alone. I dedicate it first to Almighty God and to the memory of my late father, Chief Bayo Ige,” she said.

Akinsanmi also dedicated the award to the former Minister of National Planning and Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, whose visionary leadership continues to drive institutional reforms and strengthen accountability across regional efforts.

Joke Akinsanmi is a seasoned media and communication strategist with over two decades of progressive experience spanning corporate communications, media and public relations, corporate affairs, and team development.

She is widely regarded as a consummate professional with strong strategic insight and leadership capacity, and has continued to earn recognition for her significant contributions to multimedia journalism and corporate communications in Nigeria.

Her impact was further acknowledged in 2024 when she was honoured by The Guardian Newspaper as one of Nigeria’s 25 most exceptional and value-adding female professionals.

The recognition highlighted her role in inspiring women and emerging professionals in corporate governance and public service.

An Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Akinsanmi has a solid academic foundation in mass communication, complemented by extensive involvement in electoral processes and party politics.

Her professional focus remains on delivering accurate, objective, and insightful analysis of electoral and democratic processes, contributing to democratic consolidation in Nigeria and beyond.

Currently, she serves as the Director, Training and International Cooperation Department at NILDS, an arm of the National Assembly where she plays a key role in advancing research, capacity building, and institutional development within one of Africa’s leading democratic governance institutions.
