Nigeria, Sweden partner to drive green, digital innovation

In a strategic move to fast-track Nigeria’s digital and green transformation, 21st Century Technologies has sealed a groundbreaking partnership with EPICENTRE Sweden, backed by Business Sweden and the Swedish Government.

According to a statement, the alliance, focused on sustainable energy, artificial intelligence, and open innovation, aims to position Nigeria as a key player in the global green economy.

At the Nigeria-Sweden Business Forum in Lagos, Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria Desire and 21st Century Technologies CEO Wale Ajisebutu signed an agreement to boost innovation and green infrastructure.

The event, themed ‘Driving Innovation and Investing in Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Impact’, brought together leaders from government, academia, and business from both countries.

At the core of the partnership is the establishment of the EPICENTRE innovation hub within 21st Century’s Lagos headquarters.

Also, the facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for advanced research in renewable energy, eco-friendly infrastructure, and digital technologies, providing a platform for co-creation, training, and capacity building.

Ajisebutu described the partnership as a “milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward building smart, sustainable infrastructure.”

He further emphasised that the collaboration would focus on renewable energy solutions, especially wind power, green technology incubation, and the expansion of digital infrastructure.

“This aligns with our mission to offer sustainable, problem-solving solutions to Nigerians with innovation at the core,” Ajisebutu said.

Désiré underscored the urgency of transitioning to a green economy, stressing the importance of cooperation and bold innovation.

She stated, “It is truly inspiring to see Nigerian and Swedish companies co-developing solutions and sharing expertise. But real progress requires collaboration with academia and civil society too.

“Thanks to this partnership, I am hopeful that even more sustainable solutions will emerge in areas such as renewable energy, mining, and transportation.

“By harnessing Sweden’s global leadership in clean technology and 21st-century infrastructure expertise and deep local insight, both countries are poised to drive meaningful innovation and accelerate Nigeria’s sustainable development goals.”

It added that the EPICENTRE hub in Lagos is expected to become a regional beacon for green technology, AI advancement, and inclusive economic growth in West Africa.
