Nigeria-Made Electric SUV Unveiled: SAGLEV’s M-HERO

Electric vehicle manufacturer SAGLEV has unveiled its first locally assembled luxury electric SUV, the M-HERO, in a leap toward achieving renewable and cleaner energy in Nigeria’s automotive sector.

Speaking at the launch of the vehicle on Monday, in Lagos, SAGLEV’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sam Faleye, described the unveiling as a major step toward sustainability and economic empowerment.

He said, “This is not just about introducing a vehicle; it is about building a future anchored on innovation, job creation, and national pride in local manufacturing.”

According to Falaye, the new M-HERO electric vehicle, assembled at SAGLEV’s new production facility in Lagos, features a driving range of up to 1,000 kilometres in its extended version, vehicle-to-load power capability, and drone synchronisation for remote surveillance.

The automobile boss also hinted at future additions, including self-defence and military-grade features.

He added that the Imota plant, which currently has an assembling capacity of 2,500 units of vehicles annually, is expected to scale up to 10,000 vehicles, offering a major boost to domestic production and job creation.

Dr. Faleye emphasised the broader economic implications of the project, citing reduced vehicle imports, skilled employment opportunities, and new avenues for Nigerian investors.

He said, “We’ve created a programme where Nigerians can invest in electric vehicles and earn returns. This is about democratising access and opportunity.”

He also underscored the affordability of electric mobility, estimating daily charging costs at just N2,000, far lower than the N14,000 average for petrol-powered alternatives.

SAGLEV is also planning a network of electric vehicle charging stations across Lagos and has promised dedicated after-sales support for customers.

Also speaking at the event, the Ranodu of Imota, Oba Mudashiru Bakare-Agoro, hailed the launch as a sign of the host community’s growing industrial prominence.

“From the rice mill to this EV assembly plant, Imota is becoming a hub of national importance,” he said, adding that despite current challenges like limited charging infrastructure, the M-HERO represents a bold move toward cleaner, more inclusive mobility.
