Nasarawa APC Adopts Direct Guber Primaries, Others

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted direct primaries ahead of the party’s gubernatorial, national and state Assemblies primaries for its aspirants seeking the ticket of the party for the 2027 general elections.

Governor Abdullahi Sule announced this at a press briefing after a meeting with governorship aspirants, members of the National and state Assemblies, and other key stakeholders from the state.

He explained that the meeting provided a platform for all key stakeholders to freely express their views on how the party should navigate the primary election.

The governor disclosed that the majority of those at the meeting spoke strongly in favour of direct Primaries for the party’s gubernatorial and other elective positions during the meeting.

Sule assured that the process would be open, transparent and would be conducted in compliance with the APC constitution and the Electoral Act.

He appealed to all aspirants to be ready to accept the outcome of the primary in good faith, warning that whoever chooses to leave the party after losing out would only be demonstrating an inability to accept defeat.

The governor warned aspirants against bitterness and open confrontation, also warned against division, stressing that division within the party would ultimately hurt the state more than any individual.

Sule, who reiterated his resolve on the zoning arrangement, said in the spirit of fairness and equity, it was time for Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor of the state.

” I keep insisting, and I stand by that, in line with the spirit of brotherhood, let us take it to Keffi Zone, which has not produced a governor for twenty years,” Sule insisted.

The governor stressed that although he is going to be transparent and sincere while going through the process of the primary elections, it would not stop him from identifying his preferred zone and aspirant.

” Those who want to listen to me can follow. Those who don’t want to listen can do otherwise,” he said.

Sule expressed optimism that the APC in Nasarawa state would come out from the primaries stronger, united and best prepared to win all the positions in the 2027 general election.
