NAICOM urges insurance firms to massively employ youths

The Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission, Olusegun Omosehin, has charged insurance firms in the country to tap into the  ‘One Million Youths in Insurance’ programme of NAICOM during their recruitment process.

In early October, NAICOM and the Federal Ministry of Youth signed a Memorandum of Understanding to train one million youths in the country in conjunction with the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.

The programme aims to empower Nigerian youths with knowledge and best practices to be able to participate in insurance, boost youth entrepreneurship by offering financial protection and create employment across the 774 Local Government Areas by providing another channel of opportunities for youths.

It will also promote insurance awareness on social media and other platforms, boost the insurance industry in Nigeria with impact across other sectors and accelerate Nigeria’s Financial Inclusion mandate.

Speaking at the 16th Meeting of the Insurers’ Committee in Lagos, Omosehin implored insurance practitioners to consider participants from the initiative in their recruitment exercise.

He said that the program would not only help to enhance insurance awareness but also provide sound insurance education for the youths.

He told the insurance executives that Sapphital Learning Limited in partnership with CIIN has been saddled with duties such as; developing the training modules; providing human resources to take different modules and issuing certificates of participation to the one million youths.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Sapphital Learning Limited, Amu Ogbeide, during a presentation at the event titled, ‘Insurance: A Platform for Engaging With a Million Nigerian Youths, noted that the training program would help transform insurance practice.

Ogbeide went on to seek the full support of insurance practitioners for the success of the programme.

Recall that the subcommittees of the Insurers’ Committee have also been reconstituted in line with the pillars of a 10-year roadmap for the insurance industry.

The reconstituted sub-committees of the IC include  Insurance Sector Stability, Communication & Stakeholders Management, Technology & Talent Management and Customer Service & Market Expansion.
