Motivair Expands Liquid Cooling for AI with New CDU Solution

Motivair by Schneider Electric has announced the launch of its new MCDU-70 Coolant Distribution Unit, describing it as a scalable, high-performance solution for next-generation AI data centres.

The company said the announcement marked a significant expansion of its liquid cooling portfolio, designed to meet the growing thermal demands of high-density computing environments.

The firm created a new cooling machine (the MCDU-70) that keeps AI data centres from overheating. AI servers, especially the ones with lots of GPUs (the chips that do heavy AI calculations), produce an enormous amount of heat—20–50 times more than regular computer servers. If the heat isn’t managed, the machines can slow down, fail, or even get damaged.

“AI isn’t slowing down. Our solutions are designed to keep pace with chip and silicon evolution, delivering next-gen performance when it matters most,” Chief Executive Officer of Motivair by Schneider Electric, Rich Whitmore, said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added, “Data centre success now hinges on delivering scalable, reliable, efficient infrastructure solutions that match the next generation of AI factory deployments. We’re meeting that moment with proven liquid cooling solutions that scale with our customers’ needs.”

The company said the MCDU-70 was compact but powerful, making it suitable for high-density facilities such as NVIDIA Omniverse DSX Blueprint deployments, which aimed to reach 10 MW at gigawatt scale. Motivair added that multiple units could provide a 4+2 redundancy configuration to ensure reliability for AI workloads. It noted that GPUs powering AI factories generated 20 to 50 times more heat than traditional CPUs, making liquid cooling essential.

Motivair further explained that its full CDU range provided data centre operators with precise flow control, adaptive load balancing, real-time monitoring, and a scalable modular design, enabling efficient thermal management while reducing energy consumption. It reported that the MCDU-70 integrated seamlessly with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure software, allowing centralised control for optimal performance and reliability.

The company stated that the MCDU-70 was available globally through Schneider Electric’s manufacturing hubs in North America, Europe, and Asia, and that it was well positioned to meet current and future AI cooling requirements, delivering reliable performance for high-density GPU deployments.
