MFM hosts Rivers seminar on Nigeria’s new tax regime

The Rivers State Mega Region of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries recently organised a public seminar to educate residents on Nigeria’s new tax law and its implications for individuals and businesses.

The seminar, part of the church’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, provided participants with an opportunity to interact with experts and relevant agencies involved in the implementation of the law, according to a statement.

In his welcome address, Mega Senior Regional Overseer of MFM, Olawole Dahunsi, emphasised the church’s commitment to lawfulness and community transformation.

“The church is a law-abiding ministry, teaching its members to obey the law while being agents of positive change in their communities,” he said.

The seminar featured presentations on the analysis of the new tax law, benefits and opportunities, compliance requirements, company income tax, capital markets, and the implications of the law on businesses and individuals.

Also, a tax consultant, Kola Bamiwuye, stressed the importance of registering for a Tax Identification Number and complying with tax regulations. “We all need the TIN for earned or unearned income, and companies must also register with pension administrators,” he said.

In his remarks, the Lead Consultant of Clarylife Global, Simeon Taiwo,  highlighted obligations for digital earners under Nigeria’s 2026 tax reforms, noting that foreign salaries, online freelance fees, and digital asset proceeds are now captured under the new framework. He urged residents to maintain proper records and register for TIN to avoid penalties.

Other speakers, including officials from the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service and experts on business registration, explained Pay-As-You-Earn, tax exemptions, and the importance of registering and maintaining active business statuses with the Corporate Affairs Commission.

The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing participants to seek clarification on issues affecting personal and business tax compliance. Organizers said the initiative is part of MFM’s ongoing effort to empower residents with practical knowledge for economic independence and legal compliance.
