Tragedy struck on Easter Day in Asaba, the Delta State capital as a mango tree along the popular Okpanam road fell on a commercial tricycle, and killed the operator and his passenger.
The identities of the victims were still unknown. The mango trees were planted during the days of Mungo Park but have become overgrown.
The particular ill-fated tree got uprooted during the whirlwind that proceeded the thunderstorm of the downpour of the fateful day.
An eye witness, who simply identified herself as Uzoamaka said: “The tricycles was plying the road at the time of the windstorm but the tree suddenly got uprooted and collapsed on it.”
Similar occurrence was said to have happened some months ago when an overgrown branch of one of the trees fell on the moving vehicle of the former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor, and shattered the windscreen and other accessories of his Prado Jeep. This was as many motorists have lost control into the trees when returning from hight life events.
