Labour Party has said that its National Convention will hold in Umuahia, Abia State capital on April 28, 2026. The party, in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), jointly signed by the acting National Chairman, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, said that ward and local government congresses will hold on April 23 and 24, respectively, to elect party executives.
The letter, which was dated March 31, 2026 and received at the office of the INEC Chairman the same day, also stated that the party’s state congresses will hold on April 25.
According to the party, the letter was written pursuant to section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended), INEC Regulations and Guidelines for political parties, and Section 223(1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandate political parties to inform the commission of their congresses, conventions and meetings.
Labour Party had earlier notified INEC of the postponement of the congresses and national convention to allow it complete its digital membership registration.
